Fasting

: To hold without food or drink voluntarily;
: To control diet by taking limited food or drink especially as a religious discipline;

The principle of fasting is simple. When the intake of food is temporarily stopped, many systems of the body are given a break from the hard work of digestion and that helps to relax and re-energize the digestion system. The extra energy gives the body the chance to heal and restore itself, and burning stored calories gets rid of toxic substances stored in the body. Fasting is not a starvation. It is a self-determined action not to take food or to take only limited food voluntarily.

Animals will naturally fast when they are sick or injured, and our hunger diminishes when we get sick. In fact since before the word “doctor” came into existence, priests-saints provided where people could go to fast. Whereas modern medical practitioners admit that they have no cures, only drugs that mask the symptoms while causing yet other symptoms to appear. Fasting has also been used in every religion, including Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism. Many of great spiritual leaders fasted for mental and spiritual clarity. Fasting has been used in Europe as a medical treatment for years. Many spas, treatment centres and Ayurveda use medically supervised fasting.

The most important benefit of fasting are : 1. Mental clarity is improved and brain fogs are lifted. 2. Greater ease of movement 3. Breathing becomes fuller, freer and deeper. Fasting has been tested for 40 days with water. But now a days, Juice fasting is safe and can allow the body to clean itself of toxins. A benefit is that your energy level is high because you are receiving sufficient nutrients from the juices, so you can carry out normal activities. A juice fast takes some burden off the digestive system and frees up some energy for accelerated healing though a water fast does much better in that regard. Also, juices can make available extra quantities of nutrients that a person might lack.

Fasting for food only?
Why I was inspired to write about fasting? Because I realised that fasting is most important medicine for treating physically as well as mentally. I realised that from addicted , either have good habit or bad habit, it needs break. A break to change the system of routine life by travelling for the week to a month. Travellers all daily habits get affected like sleeping, eating, transporting, watching TV, reading or sitting with computer.

Whenever I get spare time I used to sit on computer for blogging, Facebook or my work, but since The idea of fasting came out in mind, I planned my work in limit with computer for the week in spite of my love for computer. I couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to give them up voluntarily. In fact, I was doing pretty good on my planned work on computer and I got a lot of spare time to do some thing new, like reading books and watching my favourite movies and watching TV with family.

I think success is difficult to define with the Fasting, But surely it helped me out to hear the voice I needed to hear and didn’t want to hear and I will go to the computer next time with full conscious planning.
